I bought a book, ruler and DVD a few years ago to make the square in a square block. The idea is that it is more accurate and fast. The speed isn't really true because of needing to do the extra step of cutting but if you struggle piecing blocks the accuracy may be what you need. I would rather just stick with the AccuQuilt system. The downside with AccuQuilt is that the size cannot be adjusted without buying more die cutters. Everything has pluses and minuses.

It has taken about an hour to cut each stack of 17 and 18 blocks. That's a total of two hours just for this step. A big plus is that the square is on point, but the edge of triangles are on the bias. Great use of the rotating cutting mat. Now to sew the blocks together.
