Scholarship Quilt Winner

For the last year I have headed up a committee to help raise college scholarship funds with our quilting guild, The Woodlands Area Quilt Guild.  Along with a lot of help form my bee, Needle Dreamers.  I don't have the numbers yet but am told that we did well.  The drawing was held this last Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at our Christmas party guild meeting.  I found a volunteer to pick the winning ticket.  Then we went to the front of the crowd, I turned the raffle drum and our volunteer, Rachel, reached in and picked a ticket.  She called out, Ruth Roesler.

To say the least I was flabbergasted!  It was truly the very last name I expected to come out of there!!!  I was even a little embarrassed  not sure why but it all just felt wrong.  I was expecting to congratulate someone or maybe to even go place a call to the winner.  Well, now I am the proud owner of a queen sized quilt!  Wow!

Woodlands Area Quilt Guild Quilt Show

I entered my first quilt show this weekend. It was a lot of fun and I was shocked to see that I got a couple of ribbons.

Ralph's Family tree got a Honorable Mention. It was one out of 17 quilts in the Pieced-Two Person-Large category. The second quilt I entered was the veggie table runner, that I called Grandma's Garden. It took 1st place in the Home Decor category. I was the only one who entered. Ha, ha what a way to win!

Mary too was a 1st place winner!! The category she entered was Pieced-New Quilter. She too was the only one to enter but in her case I'm sure she would have won no matter who entered!!

So what is the lesson here? You can't win if you don't try!! We'll see how it goes in 2015.

Guild Challenge

Sorry, I've run out of time to add information. The first three are in order of first place, second, and third. The rest are just random.

Time to go pack for our trip to the farm.

Needle Dreamers Block Exchange 2012

The exchange was held over the course of a year. Each person gave directions concerning the block and fabric that they wanted. Some gave a pattern, others did not but would ask for a Christmas pattern, for example. It was exciting to see how everyone interpreted the directions. What a talented group of women!

Not everyone in the bee joined the exchange so it looks like it will be done again!

Table Runner & Coaster

I finished up Jacqueline's table runner and made her four coasters to match! ;)

Mailed it off, but right now I couldn't say just when...end of Februaryish!! So only two months after Christmas.

Today

I did get a few things done today. Got the label on Mary's quilt, finished the binding on the Thanksgiving quilt and worked some more on Mary's queen sized quilt. One more side to do!!

Quilt Show

These are two quilts I'm entering in the quilt show and one that Mary is entering. I'm finding out that there is a lot of time/work that goes into getting these things ready. :(

Romantic Roses

Backing is made. Quilt measures 73.5" x 58". I have Warm and Natural batting, now I need to find a floor big enough to pin baste.

This is the first project from my list that I'm starting. Not the first thing I've started because I had to make a little mini quilt for the quilt show. I'm finished sewing it and have been hand quilting the stars. But today I put the backing together for this quilt and figured out it would cost at least $100 to have it quilted, and it is only a lap quilt. Its 73.5" x 58". So I think that I need to just quilt it myself. It will have to go into a new pile because I have others I need to finish quilting first.

Before going on I need to stop and fill out the entry forms for the WAQG Quiltshow in April. The forms are due in one week.

Happy New Year!

I know I have done this before but my friend Nancy suggested we all make a new years resolution about the quilts we would want to do this next year. We all raised our eyebrows when she said that her other bee picked one UFO to finish. One??? Gosh, I hope I can finish one. I pointed out that it would be more challenging to not start one in the next year to which the raised eyebrows were pointed at me!! Ha, ha. At my mention of posting this on a blog everyone declined but I know me and it is a challenge I give myself.

So today after scumming the floor I attempted to photograph all the projects I have left to quilt, piece and or cut. After taking some shots, I saw three or four I missed but I think you'll get the idea. I'd like to figure out how to make a slide show to insert here instead of adding 20 to 30 pictures. For now the photo shows 18 projects. My total count is up to 30, but I'm sure I'm forgetting some. Well, that seems do-able; says the crazy lady! I think my idea of not starting anything new may have hit the nail on the head.

Now, I can't start just yet. The quilt show entry's are due and the Needle Dreamers Bee is going to Huntsville, TX tomorrow to see Elaine's friends entry in a museum show called Deep Space. But I have finished making the 8 block exchange kits to hand out (because mine block seems to have walked away) tomorrow. Also I think I'm done making everyone else's block. Oh, that would be 31 projects. Elaine will be my partner, other wise known as the only one who can badger me about my UFOs and try and keep me from starting very many new projects. And I for my part will try, TRY and encourage her to do the same. LOL

The weather has been really warm so I worked outside a little yesterday. I dead headed the mums I planted in October; they started re-blooming. I think I'll see what Walmart has in and perhaps get an early start on the flower beds. I keep wondering how my grass is growing at the farm in Missouri!
